In Memoriam
Renton Civic Theatre's 2011–2012 Season is Dedicated to the Memory of Lillian G. Poff
Lillian G. Poff
29 June 1922 — 15 July 2011
On July 15, Lillian G. Poff passed away surrounded by those she loved.
She was born to John and Mabel Greenhill in Waverly, WA, and grew up there. In 1939, she graduated from Fairfield High School and worked as a bookkeeper for Farmers' Alliance until WWII when she started one of her lifelong professions: volunteering. She volunteered for the WAVES US Navy reserves.
Lillian met and married George Allan Poff in 1944 in Alameda, CA. Less than six weeks after the marriage they were separated for nineteen months, testing her strength of character, until the war was over when she started her married life in Renton in 1945. Her second full–time profession was motherhood, at which she excelled. She raised two children to successful careers and marriages.
During her many years in Renton, Lillian donated endless hours to the Well Baby Clinic, to PTAs in elementary and high schools, and to the City Council. She was on the Renton Civic Theatre Board, the Renton Public Library Board, and she kept the books for her Home Owners' Association. She was a multi–tasker before computers. She worked election campaigns for local, state and federal office candidates seeking no compensation for her effort. Her hobbies were her family and her home gardening. They were the loves of her life and those accomplishments will suffer for her loss.
She is survived by George Allan, her husband of 67 years in Renton; a son Jim (Joy) of Renton; a daughter Becky (Bill McFarland) of Estacada, OR; four grandchildren Debra (Henry Hardgrave) of Renton; Jason Poff (Bethany OBrien) of Seattle; Riley (Tim Carroll) of Sandy, OR; and Josh McFarland (Krystal) of Eagle Creek, OR. She is also survived by four great–grandchildren: Ian and Alaina Hardgrave of Renton; and Tyler and Connor Carroll of Sandy, OR.
A memorial service will be held Saturday 23 July 2011 at 1:30 PM in the gardens she created at the family home, located at 1716 Lincoln Court SE in Renton, WA. A reception will follow, also at the residence. Inurnment will be a private ceremony at the Tahoma National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, send memorials to Renton Civic Theatre, the Renton History Museum, the Museum of Flight, or the Fairfield Cemetery Fund.

The Mystery of Irma Vep — A Penny Dreadful by Charles Ludlam is one of the most produced comedies in US history. It is a tribute to gothic horror films, liberally stealing from well known film classics like "Wuthering Heights," "The Mummy's Curse" and Hitchcock’s "Rebecca." Literary detectives will also recognize dialog lifted from Ibsen, Shakespeare, and Poe. This definitive spoof of Gothic melodramas is complete with werewolves, vampires, damsels in distress and an Egyptian mummy. A hearty mixture of thrills, laughter and extravagant showmanship!

Crossing Delancey is a charming romantic comedy set in present day New York City. The play explores the age old traditional roles of women as expressed by Bubbie, the lovable, feisty, sharp–witted grandma in her eighties and contrasted with the liberated options of the "new woman" explored by her twenty–something granddaughter Isabelle "Izzy" Grossman. When Bubbie and the matchmaker Hannah try to arrange a date for Izzy with Sam, the local pickle man, a generational and cultural clash erupts! Izzy has ideas of her own and the conflict is resolved with a generous dose of humor, affection, and wisdom. Crossing Delancey is a production all ages can enjoy together!
