The Renton Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection to the murder of Axel Chirinos Banegas.
The Special and Directed Enforcement Teams arrested a 56-year-old man on investigation of murder in connection with the homicide of 23-year-old Banegas, who was found in his apartment by a family member in the 1100 block of Edmonds Avenue NE on March 5, 2025. The man was arrested in Renton on June 3, and was taken into custody without incident.
RPD said investigators believe this was not a random attack, and that the suspect targeted the apartment for robbery. Video surveillance footage showed the suspect leaving the apartment with two safes containing watches and other valuables, police said. Banegas was found inside the apartment a couple of days after the robbery.
The police said they searched the apartment, interviewed neighbors, family and friends, and evaluated the evidence to determine there was probable cause for murder. The Renton Reporter does not name suspects until they are formally charged. More information will be reported when available.
